Review on v0.9 Progress

A news update is long past due, so I want to make sure everyone is up to date on what's been happening with the game. All summer we've been working our hardest to truly make v0.9 the most significant improvement yet. If you've been keeping up with our Facebook and Twitter, you may already be aware of some of the various changes coming to the game. Here are some highlights:

New Optimized Full Screen Mode

Many computers in the past have had issues scaling the game to full screen using Ctrl+F. In v0.9 we will be introducing hardware scaling for this method, which means that by sacrificing some visual quality the hardware is used to stretch the game screen. The result is much smoother gameplay, since it plays as if the window size was never changed! This will now be an optional feature suitable for those with slower computers that want to play in full screen.

Improved Collision Detection

Despite efforts to completely rid the game of collision issues for v0.8b, there were still a few small bugs here and there with platforms. In v0.9, all of these issues have been alleviated since the collision code is now under a new and more reliable system. Passing through walls and falling through platforms will no longer be a problem.

Online Mode A Good Possibility By Final Release

For those of you who missed it, awhile back we announced on our Facebook page that an Online Mode is indeed something we have been looking into for awhile now. There are many technical issues that come with such a mode, so we unfortunately cannot make any promises for v0.9. But we really hope to have success so that the mode can be a reality by the time of the full release of the game.

Quickly Gaining a Competitive Audience

The game has become a lot more popular this year since the release of v0.8b, and is even is getting noticed among competitive players in the Smash community such as Vex Kasrani and Mew2King. Take a look at the pros in action:

Special Announcement - New Game!

Remember when I said I had an "out of the ordinary update" coming? Well, today is a special day, since it's the release of MG's first joint game project with Willy World Entertainment called "Yeah Jam Fury". Also, this first MG release of a complete game in almost 6 years! Smile


In this game, in order to complete each level you must transform between three characters - Yeah, Jam, and Fury. Each of them has their own unique abilities, so you must use every technique at your disposal to reach the delicious mango at the end of each level! So enough with the talk, go play and see for yourself! Very Happy

This isn't SSF2, what's going on?

Don't panic SSF2 fans, this was a secret project completed during my last semester of college with friends this year, and I wanted to surprise you all. The game's concept and design comes from Willy World Entertainment, so my main role in the game was the music and assisting with coding (so this was by no means a project done by myself). And as some of you may know already I am now a college grad Cool. So relax, there's still plenty of time for SSF2. The other Devs and I have been working hard on v0.9 as we enter the summer, and we'll be sure not to disappoint. Wink

Revamped Roster + Looking for New Devs

Again, it has been awhile since the last update, so I've decided to fill you guys in on what's going on behind the scenes for SSF2.

Details on v0.9:

Many have been asking what type of content to expect in v0.9. This time around we will be focusing a lot more on additions to single player modes, character additions, VS Mode AI (CPUs), stages, and other content-based features. This of course comes with the standard bug-fixes and balancing as in every update. We want v0.9 to be packed full of content to keep the game fun until the final release of the game. v0.9 will definitely take awhile to complete since it's going to be such a huge one, but that doesn't mean there's nothing else going on around here in the meantime. So with that news, I would like to post two related announcements-

The first major announcement is the new Revamped Roster:

Many of you have been asking what's been going on with the roster for the game ever since Renji was added as an assist trophy and Vegeta being in the background of Planet Namek. I would like to take this opportunity to confirm that changes have indeed been made to the roster. The roster has been completely re-thought in order to come up with the best combination of official characters.

I'm not announcing details as to the exact changes being made, however I am officially confirming today that fan characters Blade, Blue, Azrael, and Spikeman have been cut from the roster and will NOT be returning. The other Devs and I have come to the agreement that these characters are no longer up to the game's standards in quality and relevancy, and many of the original creators of said fan characters left long ago. Of course this does not completely discount these characters from ever appearing as expansions - we would simply rather see more worthy characters in their place for the official game. Just note that the "Nintendo-only" clause still holds, and that only characters that have appeared in at least 1 Nintendo console game will be added as official characters.

The second announcement is that we are looking for new Devs!:

The Devs and I want everyone to be aware that we are searching for new Dev members. With the lengthy to-do list for v0.9 it would really help expedite the process of the game if we could get other talented individuals to offer their assistance Smile

We have created this Dev application here that you can fill out if you are interested in applying:

Sample Positions Include:
-Character Spriting
-Stage Spriting
-Flash Effects
-Voice Acting

We are also looking for people to help out in secondary areas such as Public Relations, Video Editing/Promotional Videos, and Sound Effects.

Keep in mind however that we won't just accept anyone out of the blue. Be prepared to prove to us that you have the skills and dedication necessary to contribute to the game. We could certainly use the help but we only want people who are truly serious about the project.

Demo v0.8b Released!

SSF2 Demo v0.8b is now available! Very Happy

Check it out in the Games section right away! Although the update may seem small at first, we've added lots of little treats in addition to all of the fixes and balancing. Be sure to play the game thoroughly so you don't miss out on any of the new additions!


Also remember that the next update will be v0.9. This will be a VERY large update so it will take quite some time to complete. I'll try to make sure to post new information every once in awhile to ease the wait a bit. Perhaps some new music or another contest soon, we'll see. Hopefully we'll see the update finished by the end of the year or sooner. In the meantime, go enjoy v0.8b!


Some people have reported issues with DK's target test time being saved. Please re-download the game once more to fix the problem.
